Have you ever been to the doctor’s office, and after telling them your symptoms, they give you that “Oh, is that all?” face? Then you spend the rest of the appointment trying to convince them that you are ill. It’s like you’re put in a position where you have to justify having made the appointment in the first place.
I believe therapy should be the exact opposite of this. Therapy should make people feel validated, feel heard. Some people come to therapy to tackle a specific issue, others come just to talk or vent, still others don’t yet have a clear idea of what they’re seeking in therapy. Whatever brought you here, I believe that you deserve to be given a place where you can feel heard and valued.
My approach to therapy combines cognitive-behavioral with interpersonal principles. That’s basically a fancy way of saying that our relationships, and how we think about and behave in our relationships, are important. I strive to create an environment where you feel safe to be yourself, and I strive to give you more validating responses than what you may have received earlier in life. For those interested in taking this path, I can provide you with research-based interventions to help target and change thoughts and behaviors that may be holding you back in life.
Above all else, I believe that therapy should be individually tailored to meet your unique needs. You won’t find a one-size-fits-all approach here. You will be given the freedom to work at a pace that feels comfortable for you, and you will always have the final say as to how you want your therapy to progress.
I hope this gives you a better idea of what it would be like to begin therapy with me. If you have any questions, or if you are ready to schedule a FREE 30-minute consultation session, please feel free to call me at (970)631-5400, or fill out the form below to send me a message.
